Glebe House, the home of Jane and Tony Robinson is a spectacular new venue offered to us for the first SCDC two day event held over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Friday evening we were all treated to a Pimm’s reception hosted by Jane with geese flying overhead to their night roost and hot air balloons bobbing above us, what more could you want in the English countryside?
This venue is beyond magnificent with superb flat lorry park, excellent warm up areas, a fantastic bowling green dressage arena (that has to be one of the best you’ll ever get a chance to drive in) and a large challenging cones course in an adjacent field.
Saturday evening after the briefing competitors were treated to Kayti’s Musical Bingo, it appeared that the SCDC team took on the Team Howe. A huge amount of hilarity, loud signing and some questionable dancing followed. Team Howe got the first line, then team SCDC were first to complete a full house to very loud and well deserved cheering.
Sunday’s marathon, on tracks and fields with not a road or car in sight, started out on section A winding its way along the picturesque river bank before arriving at the halt area. Section B set off across the fields with beautifully mown tracks to the six permanent and purpose built obstacles, all different from each other and two sponsored very kindly by Jane’s friends Kearl Groundworks Construction www.kearl.co.uk and Keep it Green Garden Maintenance www.keepitgreengardenmaintenance.co.uk
The Stewards were treated to wonderful tea and cakes on their return to the secretary’s office whilst the scoring was very quickly and efficiently completed by Katy Stewart, ready for the prize giving. By 4:30 pm only one horse box remained, everything and everyone gone as if we had never been there.
With thirty six entries over the two days some doing the full competition, others just dressage and cones, one or two just the marathon and one just doing the pleasure drive, everyone was catered for and all agreed that this venue had everything and was brilliant. We can’t wait to come back again next year, spread the word, this is a venue not to be missed!
“A massive thanks from us all for such a lovely event you organised last weekend. A beautiful venue and one of the nicest events we’ve been to in a long time.” The Matthews Family
