Wessex Region ICD

Southern Carriage Driving Club (SCDC) has been running Indoor Carriage Driving (ICD) for the Wessex Region for many years. We hold six events from October to March every year at Sparsholt Equine Centre in Winchester SO21 2NB and are a qualifying event for the National Championships held in April. Throughout the season we also run a Club Class for newcomers, hold long-reining classes, raffles, fancy dress competitions and more to ensure it’s an event for all levels of competitor and for young, novice or experienced horses and ponies alike.

The Competition

The National Championship qualifying classes are Novice Pony, Novice Horse, Open Pony, Open Horse, Multiples and Small Pony. Classes may be combined depending on entry numbers. To enter these classes you need to be membes of ICD and this will get you into the Championship Points League. The SCDC Club Class is for non-ICD members, those with young horses or those new to the sport who won’t be entered into the Points League. All classes get to compete across the 3 phases below.

Precision & Paces

Practice the current seasons P&P test. One judge marks the accuracy of the movement the other judges the pace of its execution. Scores are out of 10 for each movement and once deducted from the ‘perfect score’ you’re looking to achieve the lowest penalty score.

Cones

There’s a target time for the cones course. From start to end flags, drive the cones in numerical order and make sure you don’t knock any balls off. You get one mark for each second over or below the target time plus five marks for each knockdown.

Obstacles

Two obstacles will be available including gates A to E. You and your groom will find the best route round all gates in order (red on right, white on left) to achieve the fastest times against the clock. After your class completes Ob 1 & 2, you drive the same two again for Ob 3 & 4.
